Search Engine Registration - Tips and Use
View of Search Engine Registration
It does not matter how beautiful your site is, if you do not register it with the search engines, you are selling your site short and eliminating a lot of visitors to your site.
The professionals saying that "if you build it, they will come" does not apply on the Internet. It is more like "if they don't know about it, they won't come". But listing your site is not enough, it must be listed on top 20 for you to get visitors out of it.
Most searchers do not look beyond the first 20 results. You don't want your site to be the one millionth site indexed on a particular search.
For your site to be listed on top of the search engines, you must know the secrets of how the search engines works.
What Search Engine do ?
Search engines are like your local telephone directory (phone book) for the Internet. Just like you use your local telephone directory to look up a businesses, people on the Internet use the search engines to look up information. So if your sight is not listed with the search engines, your site will not show up when a search is done.
The search engines search your site for words that describe your page and index your page based on how many times such words are used on your page. So if your page is about "hosting", the search engine will index your site and keep it until someone searches for "hosting". It will pull up your site and every other sites that have hosting mentioned in their text. However, to have your site on top of other sites will certainly get you more "hosting" interested visitors than other sites.
Metatag
Metatag are very useful in telling the search engines what you want your page to read when they are pulled up. It is also used to record your keywords and many other things. (please look regarding Meta tags)
Choosing Keywords carefully
The keywords of your page is basically telling the search engines what words are associated with your page. Example; if you have a web page about "finance", it is probably a good idea to have loans or credit as one of your keywords. Now; do not list too many keywords. 10-15 keywords are about right. Most search engines do not record past 15 words. Also always make your city and or state part of your keywords. The reason is that a lot of people feel comfortable doing business with a company in their city or state.
Choosing your Description
The description of your page is usually what the search engines will show the searcher. It basically should summarize your page.
Invisible Keywords
Since keywords are the primary determinant of where your page is listed on the search engines huge data base, you must use them as often as possible in your text and at every opportunity you get. It is tantamount that you use them in an intelligible string of sentences. Don't just keep repeating the same word over and over again. Some search engines robots will actually penalize you for repeating the same word. Use your keyword in intelligent sentences. Remember that if you keep repeating too much on of your key words, you may end up making your page unreadable. So strike a good balance.
